(photo) Suzie Rovell-Rixx joined BioInformatics in 2002. She is a senior programmer in the Polyp Prevention Study Group. Her time is concentrated on the SAS migration and Aspirin projects.

Suzie's career began in 1979 at Hamilton Standard Division of United Technologies, Corporation. She worked on IBM mainframe computers in a variety of capacities. As an IMS Application Team programmer she worked with the purchasing and tooling departments designing and maintaining systems related to non-product purchasing ("things we buy that don’t fly", like office supplies) and fixture maintenance. After a successful stint on the Application Programming Team she graduated to the IMS Technical Support Team. There, her tasks included database design reviews, upgrade and maintenance of the IMS product, writing assembler user exits, going to fun classes in New York and attending the renowned Guide and Share Meetings. Having the need to expand her horizon she moved on to the VM Systems Support Team where she supported software for printers, compilers, utilities and got back into applications with some CADAM cowboys. Together they designed and implemented a schematic change recognition system, affectionately known as NetCompare.

Moving to the Boston area brought career changes as Suzie moved from a manufacturing environment to banking. Her one-year association with Bank Boston gave her new tools and ways of approaching the subject of testing that were not present in her previous endeavors.

The bright lights of the insurance industry lured Suzie to Liberty Mutual in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. She was a member of the Application Infrastructure Team and worked to keep the legacy claim entry system software current and viable. Compiler upgrades and migrations, TELON upgrades, DB2 database design and maintenance, MQSeries programming, cross-platform system cloning were a few of her many responsibilities.

She finally answered the call of the cool blue north and is now expanding her knowledge base to SAS and client server technology in a more rewarding application field.

Her formal education includes a B.S.B.A from UF (Go Gators!!), an M.S. in Computer Science from RPI, Hartford and an M.S. in Computer Engineering (VLSI Design) from UMASS Lowell.

She currently resides in Hanover, New Hampshire with her family.
